2010 Convention Pre Payment Information from Carol Birch
Hi Everyone
DO YOU HAVE ANY FUNDS LEFT IN YOUR PD ACCOUNT?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO PAY NOW, REGISTER LATER?
Members have the opportunity to pay for Convention 2010 now! If you have PD funds left and would like to be able to spread the cost over two years – convention costs 2009, travel and accommodation 2010 – now is your opportunity to do so! Have a look at the attached Convention 2010 flyer to see what is happening next year.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer please email me and I will forward you an invoice for payment. The invoice MUST BE USED AND RETURNED TO WASSRA, payment can be made by cheque or internet. Registration will still need to be done in 2010, as normal, paperwork for this will be on the website early next year.
This is a once only opportunity to give more members the chance to attend next year’s Convention and AAGSA Conference.
However, if you don’t have any surplus funds this year, don’t worry – registration and payment will still be done in 2010 as usual – so nobody will miss out!
Cheers, Carol

Hi Everyone
This is the last email that will go out to non-members of WASSRA. From now on updates will only go to financial members - and the bulk of the information will now be in the "Members Only" section on the WASSRA website. Congratulations to those people who have already registered on the web. You will now be able to access the Management Committee May Minutes.
If you are a financial member but haven't yet registered the instructions are detailed below. It is a very easy process and both Tina Godden and myself check the approval list every day - so the registration process is very quick.
Please also remember that you will only receive your Shoprite annual membership if you join WASSRA by the end of Term Two.
Thank you.
CAROL BIRCH
NEW TO OUR MEMBER ONLY SECTION?
If you have paid your 2009 membership please hit ENTER, then go to Member Registration, click on REGISTER and fill in your details.
You get to choose your own user name and password.
You will receive an email confirming your details.
So in more detail;
When you click on the login button you will be directed to the login page. If this is your first time go to the 3rd option on this page, which is a register button.
This is where you can enter your details. YOU CHOOSE YOUR OWN USER NAME AND PASSWORD.
When you press submit an email is then sent to WASSRA.
This is where we confirm membership for this year has been received and we approve your online registration.
You will receive an email letting you know this has occurred and confirming your user name and password.
When you are ready to login you again select the login button and you will be directed to the login page.
This time you can enter your user name and password into the top option.
If you select the "remember me" box you won't need to login for future visits.
Then it's welcome to WASSRA's Members Only Section. |

Hi Everyone
I would like to apologise again for the serious delay in getting the term one Voice magazine out to members – unfortunately there were printing problems that could not be helped, but everyone should be receiving them in the next few days. Please remember that this is the last issue you will receive unless you have renewed your membership.
The articles in this edition include:
- HRMIS Update – about the new changes coming to HRMIS
- Workforce Update
- Professional Learning Institute update from Fiona Winfield
- Financial Services & Support Directorate update from Kerry Spencer
- An article from Helen Hamilton : Senior Financial Consultant Schools
- Misconduct : Educating the Educators : Standards and Integrity Directorate
- Buying Matters : Procurement Directorate, Lian Borlace
We are already working on articles for the term two edition and that will contain more updates from various Directorates within DET and more detailed information about convention.
The Convention program should be on the website before the end of term, I have had meetings with PLI, FS & S, Workforce to discuss workshops options and the committee have been in contact with other groups and organisations to ensure we have a variety of sessions on offer.
The minutes of the May Management Committee meeting will be out shortly. In the future (hopefully term three) we will have a members’ only section on the website for the minutes and other information that will be of importance to members. We are also looking at a section on the website specific to school officers, which will include helpful hints and useful website links to assist you in your position.
At my last meeting with D/DG Margery Evans one of the items we discussed was professional development funding to schools within the grant and how this is calculated. There needs to be a serious change to this method of calculation as it does not include any support staff FTE calculations, and I will be discussing this further with corp ex to look at options to improve the situation. We also discussed the fact that many support staff are unable to attend professional learning because it does not fit within their school’s development plan – all staff are entitled to professional learning and there will be a document regarding this in an Eddymail in the near future.
I do hope your term started without problem and will continue in that fashion! Please do not hesitate to contact me via email if you require information or support in any way.
Cheers, Carol

Dear Members
It has come to my attention that some of you are paying your membership of $75 by school cheque. This is against the Department’s Finance guidelines. Members must pay for their membership personally. It should also be noted that this fee is tax deductible. If you have paid through your school you may need to reimburse the school for the amount. If you have any queries with regard to this matter please call me on the number listed below

Hi Everyone
Welcome back! I realise that it is already week four, but considering how busy I have been at school I decided to leave it for a few weeks before sending out my first email, to give you all chance to catch a breath! I do hope the first few weeks of term haven’t been too busy for you all.
I have attached the membership application form for 2009. Please remember to complete the whole form, but also tick the box beside “quick step” to assist with recording at database level.
The WASSRA website is an excellent resource – it has a great deal of useful information and is very user friendly, and well worth a look! We are still working on some areas, but the DET information is up-to-date.
Please note WASSRA’s new address – PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RM FINANCE RECORDS: P O Box 266, Beechboro, WA 6063.
The Management Committee are now planning the 2009 Convention :
-
AUGUST 27 & 28 at the Burswood Convention Centre.
-
The Holiday Inn accommodation form will be on the website shortly – I am currently negotiating for a better price.
-
The Convention will be officially opened by the Honourable Dr Elizabeth Constable, Minister for Education.
-
We have altered the schedule to finish at 2.30pm on the Friday afternoon, the AGM will be held on Thursday afternoon and there will not be a tour this year on the Wednesday (we have decided to hold the tour bi-annually).
-
The cost per person will be approx $320.00 – this will be confirmed as soon as possible.
-
We will be running streams again this year – which will benefit School Officers, Registrars and Business Managers.
If you have any queries about convention or anything else that we can help with, please email.
Cheers, Carol

Membership Advice |

From Lyn Clark
Wishing to advise all those people that have paid their membership in the last 2 months nfortunately will not receive a Shoprite card as there are insufficient numbers to do a run of cards.
Also wanting to advise those early birds who have paid their 2009 membership that these have been received but receipts won’t be issued until the commencement of 2009. This is due to the database not being able to receipt memberships for 2009 in the 2008 year. Receipts will be issued early in the New Year. Thank you. |
